Barb and I are no stranger to flooding.
A few years ago I made this site on our experience in 1987.

Re: Flooding In Our Area
Shawna, I saw that Terry spent a sleepless night worried about her house
on Vedder Mountain Road..Maybe because of a possible mudslide? Or because she is so close to the river at the back of the property..Not sure
what is was about.
This what she said on facebook. Terry is grateful that the mountain didn't fall on her house..Was there a slide on Vedder Mountain Rd by Terry`s place, that you could see Shawna on your drive home from work yesterday?

Actually, no slides near her place. There is always that fear though, I don't blame her!!!sharber60 wrote:Shawna, I saw that Terry spent a sleepless night worried about her house

Looks kind of dangerous up by you.
A few miles away from us a family lost their house in a mudslide yesterday.
Stay safe Shanaya.

Re: Flooding In Our Area
This what your Aunt Terry said about that night
Terry Bergen
It was a bit scary when they told us to evacuate, but then it was 12:30 at night and to dark to figure out what was going on.
further info..7:05pm January 9
We were told to evacuate the premises at 12:30 the night before last, they were worried that the mountain was going to slide. Brody and his friends went to town, but I decided to stay with the Dogs and geese, I really feel that the house is far enough away that I would be safe enough, But one never knows. Then the police came, and I told him if it wasn't mandatory I was staying. They had threatened to cut of the power and gas, so I had filled up a thermous with coffee and was all prepared to ride it out. But they never did cut it off. At any rate the road has been open and closed and I could get through to work, but was worried I might not get back again. But it seems to have calmed down now. Hope that is the end of it.
Thanks for the concern, the slides really did a number to the houses on the other side of the road. I am grateful to be set back as far as I am. It seems to me that whenever someone messes around on the mountain this is the end result. I call the district of Chilliwack, and ask them to monitor the work any time I hear heavy duty equipment on the mountain, as it is usually the case that someone has done something to upset the balance and that's when the slides occur, and in this case: the fellow that owns the house that got hit the hardest with a slide on both sides of him, had been trying to cut a road up the mountain. I wasn't surprised to see the damage, just surprised that it took this long to manifest itself.

Wow. Glad Terry is ok! I just watched this video on cbc news, Lillian Bakker is in it. Her son Levi and Colton were good friends when we used to live in Greendale. http://www.cbc.ca/mrl3/8752/bc/ondemand/video/bc-090109-chilliwack-floods-DA-SILVA.wmv
